That was all you could hear.
You laid under a cherry blossom tree. The warm sun blazing on parts of your [skin tone] skin, where the gaps in the tree branches allowed the rays to slip through. Pink petals were scattered over the grass, some on your resting body. Your eyes were closed, and your body was stretched out into a comfortable star position on the ground.
Everything was peaceful.
But even so, you felt sick.
Not as in throwing-up sick, but homesick. You were homesick for America.
‘Spring in Japan is nice,’ You thought, inhaling the scent of cherry blossoms. ‘...But I wish I was back home.’
Yes. You were a foreign exchange student, just like Kagami - your boyfriend. He had asked you to come with him, back to Japan, to live with him there. Japan had always been like an exciting place for you, with the Tokyo Tower, Shibuya, the Kinkaku-ji… You found almost everything exciting (even if you didn’t admit it out loud). So, when Kagami did pop the question, you agreed without a moment’s hesitation.
Which brought you to now, laying underneath the lone cherry blossom tree you found near the back of a park.
You opened your eyes, and stared up at the tree. To you, this tree was forlorn, for no other tree of its kind was within a one kilometre distance. Of course, this beautiful flora must have made friends with its tree-neighbours, but it wasn’t the same. It was still separated from it’s family, and it’s rightful home wasn’t within its limited reach.
Yes. You felt empathetic for this tree. Because you, too, were separated from your family and rightful home.
You and Kagami were sharing an apartment with his father, however, it felt like it was just you and your boyfriend living together. Kagami’s father was never really home, after all. You did phone your family back home every Sunday afternoon, but it wasn’t the same. You could hear their voices, and little [dog name] yaping in the background, but it wasn’t the same.
You missed sitting down in the park that was close to your house, hearing more than just the wind brush past and through your [hair colour] hair. You missed hearing the faint car noises in the background, with your thoughts vaguely reminding yourself that each of the people inside were busied with their own lives. You missed the overpowering noise of the loud flock of birds that came every spring, and left mid-Autumn. You missed hearing the happy screams and playful games as some kids ran around on the playground, seemingly untouched by the backhand of life. You missed hearing your beloved pug, [dog name], running around you and yaping cutely. But most of all, you just missed home.
And America was your home.
You closed your eyes again, feeling your heart pound against your chest painfully. Though, the overbearing emptiness you felt in your stomach was much worse. And the knowledge that you didn’t have the money to fly back to America, just for a trip, also didn’t help. You’ve never had this sort of pain before, and you didn’t like it. Not one bit.
You felt a shadow loom over your eyes, after you heard someone approach you. “...So there you are, [First],” A sigh came from above you.
You lazily opened your eyes, and you saw Kagami leaning over you from behind your head. A sweet smile was placed on his face, and his eyes softened as he looked at you. A soft chuckle escaped his lips as he kneeled down, and gently picked a cherry blossom petal off your forehead.
“Honestly, [First],” He chuckled, fondly. “You had me worried for a bit. What are you doing all the way back here?”
“I don’t feel well,” You mumbled, shyly. A worried look spread across your boyfriend’s face.
“Why? What’s wrong?” He asked, worriedly.
“...” You stayed quiet, for just a moment. “...I miss America.”
Kagami eyes opened, just a little bit further. Another sweet smile spread across his lips as he stared down at you, his gaze made you look away in pure embarrassment. A blush caressed your face as Kagami moved to lie beside you, disgaring the cherry blossom in his fingers.
“I know how you feel,” Kagami whispered, gently. The tall male snaked one of his arms under your back, and pulled you in close. He wrapped his other arm around you, entwining his fingers with your [hair length] hair. He rested his lips on your forehead, before sighing in content. You gripped his soft shirt, and leant into his touch with mixed feelings. While you felt homesick, you also felt… loved.
Kagami, as you remembered, was never gentle like this. He was always so loud and hot-headed, not to mention he was always a little rough with his friends. But when he met you, the quiet little you, Kagami exterior became a little dorky. Whenever you were around, he often muddled up his words. And, when he tried to impress you, he often ended up falling over. This amused you, to be honest, and it wasn’t long until you actually started to develop feelings for the basketball player. Long story short, he confessed to you, and you accepted his feelings. He was still a little dorky, trying to impress you every chance he got, and he always demanded a morning kiss, a before school kiss, a coming home kiss, and a bedtime kiss. He made you feel like you were a newly-wed couple, with all his romantic (despite dorky) gestures. Kagami was only ever gentle and sweet like this to you, and no one else.
“[First],” He whispered, quietly. You felt his lips move against your forehead, and the vibrations in his chest as he spoke. You felt a little self-conscious, because Kagami would be able to feel your reply, as well as hear it.
“Mmm?” You replied, almost silently.
“...For our honeymoon, we should go back to America,” Kagami whispered.
Your cheeks flushed a darker shade of red. “W-what are you saying?” You squeaked, gripping his shirt tighter.
Kagami smiled sweetly, and removed his lips from your forehead. He looked down at you with a soft look in his eyes. “I mean it,” He said. “Yes, we’re still in high school, but not for long. I plan on marrying you as soon as we get out, you know.”
Your blush deepened and you looked away from your boyfriend. Kagami moved his face down a little, and planted a kiss on your cheek. “...Do you think you can wait to go to America just for a few more years, [First]?” He whispered into your ear.
Though embarrassed, you nodded.
...You had just accepted a marriage proposal.
You felt Kagami smile against your cheek, as he squeezed you tighter. “I’ll get you an engagement ring later…” He whispered, happily.
‘...At least he’s aware of his statement’, You thought, smiling with him.
“...But first, I’m going to work on becoming your home.”
A laugh escaped your lips at his dorky statement. “Oh, Taiga,” You sighed, amused.
You saw a blush cover Kagami’s cheeks, and he looked away bashfully. “I mean it,” He pouted, and brought you both back to your previous position. “...I’ll become your America.”
Little did Kagami know, that the reason why you were OK with staying in Japan for a little longer was not because of his promise to bring you back to America in a few years time, but was because he was there.
Your dorky boyfriend was already becoming your America.
